Memorial Day is more than just the beginning of summer; Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day and began in the years following the end of the Civil War in 1865, although it did not become an official federal holiday until 1971. Many Americans celebrate the day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, participating in (or watching) parades, and holding family gatherings. What do you do?
Knutson Memorial Library is closed on Saturday, May 25th and Monday, May 27th in celebration. Watch for us in the parade on Monday, though, and the Friends' will be selling hotdogs and strawberry shortcake outside the library in the morning. We hope you have a safe and relaxing holiday!
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at the library!
